Es ist das direkte Gegenteil von Knappheit. Eine niedrige Populationszahl signalisiert ein geringes Angebot im Verhältnis zur Nachfrage, was der Haupttreiber für den Hochwert in Sammlerstücken ist. Eine hohe Populationszahl deutet auf Marktgesättigung hin; der Artikel ist häufig, unabhängig von seinem künstlerischen Wert. Das allgemeine Äquivalent ist der Lagerbestand.

Was es mit dem Preis macht

Die Population bestimmt die Preisobergrenze. Extrem niedrige Populationen (unter 50 bewertete Exemplare) erzielen erhebliche Aufschläge. Beispielsweise kann eine sehr begehrte Rookie-Karte mit geringer Population das 3- bis 5-fache des Preises einer identischen Version mit hoher Population erzielen, selbst wenn der Zustand identisch ist. Umgekehrt wird eine Karte mit einer Population über 5.000 im Allgemeinen als gewöhnliche Ware eingestuft. Wenn eine Karte lose für 100 $ verkauft wird, könnte eine PSA 10-Karte aus einem Set mit geringer Population für 300 $ bis 450 $ verkauft werden. Die Population wirkt als harter Multiplikator für die Knappheit.

Wie man es erkennt

Populationsdaten findet man hauptsächlich auf Aggregator-Websites von Drittanbietern, nicht in den Verkaufsangeboten der Verkäufer. Um die Population zu verifizieren, müssen Verkäufer die Zertifizierungsnummern der Grading-Gesellschaften angeben. Ein wichtiges Indiz ist die Grading-Gesellschaft selbst; PSA- und BGS-Daten sind Industriestandards. Ehrliche Fehler entstehen oft, wenn Verkäufer Auflagen oder Editionen falsch identifizieren, was zu einer überhöhten wahrgenommenen Seltenheit führt. Fälschungen sind normalerweise am Grading-Slab selbst erkennbar, nicht an der Karte, aber der Abgleich des Kartenbildes mit bekannten Populationsbeispielen ist die beste Verifizierung.

Klug kaufen

Die Bezahlung eines Aufschlags basierend auf der Population ist nur gerechtfertigt, wenn die Karte ein echtes „Chase“-Item ist – ein Rookie, eine sehr begehrte Variante oder ein Schlüsselstück einer kurzen Auflage. Wenn eine Karte eine Population über 1.000 hat und der geforderte Aufschlag mehr als 1,5-mal dem durchschnittlichen Lospreis entspricht, ist der Aufschlag wahrscheinlich unbegründet, es sei denn, die Karte weist einen außergewöhnlichen, verifizierbaren Zustand auf (z. B. ein gem mint 10). Ein fairer Deal beinhaltet einen Aufschlag, der linear mit der dokumentierten Knappheit skaliert, nicht willkürlich.

Klug verkaufen

Das Auflisten einer Karte mit dokumentierten, niedrigen Populationsdaten erhöht das Vertrauen der Käufer erheblich und rechtfertigt einen höheren Angebotspreis. Die effektivste Taktik ist das Einbinden eines klaren Bildes des Grading-Slabs, auf dem die Zertifizierungsnummer prominent dargestellt wird. Ein einfacher Satz wie „PSA 10 / Low Population“ im Titel signalisiert ernsthaften Käufern sofort die verifizierte Knappheit.
