Methodology

Each index is computed monthly from JunkPal's price history — the monthly median of real closed sales for every item. We fix a basket of the ~500 most-liquid items per category (those with the longest sold history and active buyer interest), then track the equal-weighted median of each item's price ratio versus its base-month price, indexed to 100.

The median (not the average) means a single item mooning can't fake a market-wide rally, and equal weighting means the index reflects the typical collector's shelf rather than a handful of six-figure grails. The basket is fixed so the series measures prices, not composition changes.
