クリップド・バリエティとは、コインの縁や地金から小さな削り取りや欠けといった金属の物理的な損失が見られる状態のコインです。これは意図的な打刻エラーとは異なります。軽微でカタログ化されたクリッピングは特定のバリエーションを示すこともありますが、この用語は一般的に偶発的な損傷を指します。一般的な同義語は「ダメージ」や「摩耗/擦過」です。この損失は、コイン本来の金属重量と美的完全性を損ないます。コレクターはほぼ完璧な保存状態のコインを評価するため、クリッピングは素材上の欠陥と見なされます。
