流通品とは?

意味するもの

流通品(Circulated)とは、日常的な取引に使われてきたコインを指します。これは、金属が取り扱いや摩擦、環境要因にさらされてきたことを意味します。摩耗は均一ではなく、コインデザインの最も高い部分—肖像画の髪の毛の頂点、文字の縁、盾の頂点など—に集中します。これは、オリジナルの工場出荷時の光沢と鮮明なディテールを保っている「Mint State」(MS)や「Uncirculated」(UNC)のコインとは異なります。流通とは、損傷ではなく使用の度合いを示す指標です。

価格への影響

流通は、新品同様のコインと比較して、その収集価値を直接的に低下させます。この減少は直線的ではありません。Fine (F) と評価されたコインは、同じコインがVery Fine (VF) と評価されたものよりも著しく価値が低くなります。例えば、一般的な発行年のコインが、もし重度に流通している(Good/Fair)場合、UNCのバラ売り価格の60%から80%程度で取引されることがあります。軽度に流通したコインはより多くの価値を保ち、時にはUNC価格の85〜95%を要求することもあります。重度に摩耗している場合、100ドルのUNCコインは40〜60ドル程度に下がる可能性があります。

見分ける方法

摩耗は拡大鏡(最低10倍)で見ることができます。「バッグマーク」(取り扱いによる擦れ傷)や引っかき傷を探してください。これらは製造上の欠陥ではなく、取り扱いの痕跡です。重要な指標はディテールの軟化です。シャープな線は丸みを帯び、細かい文字はぼやけます。販売者は、デザインの最も高い部分(例:肖像画の鼻、日付の最高点)に焦点を当てた高解像度の写真を提示すべきです。よくある間違いは、わずかな縁の欠けを重度の流通摩耗と誤認することです。

賢い購入

状態に関わらず、流通品に対してプレミアムを支払うのは、そのコインが極めて稀な場合にのみ正当化されます。一般的または中級のコインの場合、重度に流通したものよりも軽度に流通したものにプレミアムを支払うのは標準的な慣行です。公正な取引とは、価格がグレードを反映していることです。販売者が「軽度に流通」と主張しているが、コインの主要な特徴に顕著な平坦化が見られる場合、その価格は過大評価されています。標準的な発行品で目立つ摩耗がある場合、15〜30%の割引を想定しておきましょう。

賢い販売

正確なグレードの説明は、購入者の信頼と価格実現を左右します。単に「Very Good」であるコインを「Fine」として出品すると、提示されるオファーは低くなります。出品において最も効果的な要素は、摩耗のパターンを明確に示すクローズアップ写真です。摩耗が軽微な場合(例:文字の最も高い部分のみ)、それを「Lightly Circulated」とラベリングすることで、単に「Circulated」と出品するよりも高い価格帯を要求できます。
