アンティークコインとは?

意味するもの

「アンティークコイン」とは、かなりの年代物であり、一般的に1800年以前のもので、証明可能な歴史的背景を持つコインを指します。これは、20世紀半ば以降のアイテムを指す「ヴィンテージ」とは区別されます。この用語は固定された分類というよりは、年代と歴史的重みを記述するものです。定義は古代から初期近代の発行物まで幅広くありますが、その価値は、年代、希少性、状態(グレード)、そして記録された来歴という複数の要因の組み合わせによって決まります。年代だけでは高い価値を保証するものではありません。例えば、一般的な1700年代の銅貨はアンティークですが、高グレードの希少な18世紀の銀貨と比較すると投資価値はほとんどありません。

価格への影響

見分ける方法

本物であるためには、目視検査以上の検証が必要です。古いコインについては、既知の鋳造期間と一致する打刻の摩耗パターンを探してください。現代の偽造品は、細部が過度にシャープであったり、金属組成が不正確であったりすることがよくあります。販売者は、エッジの細部やミントマークがはっきりと見える高解像度の画像を提供しなければなりません。よくある落とし穴には、後年の再版をオリジナルと誤認することや、価値を瞬時に激減させる「修復」(クリーニングやポリッシュ)があります。もしコインがそのとされる年代に対して完璧すぎると感じたら、懐疑的になるべきです。
