ESRとは?

意味するもの

ESRはEntertainment Software Rating Boardの略です。これは、ビデオゲームにコンテンツに関する注意書きを付与する北米の規制機関です。E(Everyone)、T(Teen)、M(Mature)、AO(Adults Only)といったこれらのレーティングは、暴力、言葉遣い、性的テーマなど、ゲームのコンテンツを示す標準化されたラベルです。コレクターや再販業者にとって、ESRレーティングは固定されたメタデータの一つです。これは品質や希少性の指標ではなく、コンテンツの適性を示す記述子です。一般的なメディアにおける同等のものは、映画などに記載されている年齢制限ラベルです。

価格への影響

ESRレーティングは、価格に中程度で間接的な影響を与えます。コンディションや希少性のように主要な価値決定要因となることはめったにありません。しかし、市場セグメントの魅力には影響を与えます。非常に制限的なレーティング(MやAO)は購入者の層を絞り込む可能性がありますが、熱心で高額を支払うコレクター層を引きつけることもあります。逆に、幅広いレーティング(E)はより広い層へのアピールを保証します。非常にニッチでM指定のタイトルがCIB(Complete In Box)の場合、ゲーム自体が希少であれば、ルーズコピー(loose copy)の価格の1.2倍から1.8倍になる可能性があります。一般的なE指定のタイトルでは、この要因だけで価格が大きく変動することはありません。

確認方法

このレーティングは、通常、ゲームのボックスアート、UPCの近く、または指定された隅の部分に記載されています。デジタル版の場合、ストアフロントのページに表示されます。物理的なコピーには地域差があることがありますが、特定のリリースにおけるコアのESRレーティングは一貫しています。レーティング自体に関する偽物は稀で、ラベルは公式パッケージに印刷されています。主な間違いは、ゲームのテーマに基づいてレーティングを推測することであり、販売する特定のコピーに記載されている実際のラベルを確認することが重要です。

賢い購入

特定のESRレーティングのためだけに大幅なプレミアムを支払うのは、通常は正当化されません。ただし、そのレーティングが特定の、需要の高いコレクターバリアント(例:AO指定のみの限定版)の一部である場合は例外です。ゲーム自体がそれほど一般的であれば、レーティングは投資価値とは無関係です。公正な取引とは、価格がゲームの希少性とコンディションを反映していることであり、レーティングを反映していることではありません。もし需要の高いタイトルが、標準がMである場合にTのような望ましくないレーティングで入手可能な場合、価格差は無視できる程度であるべきであり、大幅な差があるべきではありません。

賢い販売

ESRレーティングを明確に文書化することは、出品準備における必須のステップです。購入者はコンテンツの適性で検索を絞り込むことがよくあります。レーティングラベルの写真をメインの出品写真に含めることで、購入者の期待値を管理し、紛争を防ぐことができます。タイトルや説明文にレーティングを明記する(例:「M Rated Copy」)ことで、出品が適切な層に届くことを保証します。この簡単な行為は購入者の躊躇を減らし、結果としてスムーズな販売と、その特定の分類の市場平均に近い価格につながります。
